I had a summer job during college doing maintenance on the neighborhood roads, and parks, the right of ways, just all the public property around Town. Well, one day I got an assignment to go to a dead end street next to one of the parks, and take the weed whip and a hedge trimmer to go help the cops clean a crime scene. This sounded better than laying asphalt with the other crews, so I jumped at the chance. When my coworker and I pulled up to the end of the cul-de-sac, the police officers start laughing and ask if We brought our gas masks. That's when we look over into the bushes. There's a swarm of flies making a little miniature dust devil about the size of a beach ball, they're so thick, they're visible from fifty feet away. The officer in charge tells us there was a homicide, and the body had been there for about three months, since she was badly decomposed, they were hoping that if some of the brush was cleared away, they could find some identification, like a purse, or wallet. Well, my co-worker and I strap on our gear and waltz into the brush and start clearing, we're supposed to be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary. I don't like the looks of that cloud of flies, so I clench my lips to stop any flying bits from hitting me in the mouth, and do my best to hold my breath, but that makes me end up taking in huge gasps every minute or so. We chopped up plants for a good half hour, with the officers looking over our shoulders. They abruptly told us we did a good job, but it looked like there wasn't anything to find. So we packed up and went back to the maintenance garage. When we got there, some of our coworkers were laughing because they had talked the cops on the CB while we were working. It turns out that that the cops weren't looking for a purse at all, but they couldn't find the victim's lower jaw. They didn't tell us the truth because they felt we would probably be a little more reluctant to search for body parts than personal affects. I found out the next day that the cops ended up finding the jaw they were looking for, it had just fallen off and was resting inside the chest cavity.
